‘Blue Green Ball in Black Space’
I’m quoting Bruce Cockburn, poetically describing the Earth, capturing it’s cosmic ordinariness and its wonder in the same phrase. He’s good at that.
Jesus was faultlessly good at that too. Able to see someone, hear them, have no doubt about where they were coming from, but answered them to open up amazing possibilities, to set them free, to perceive how loved and known they are.
Acknowledging their profound ordinariness, and celebrating their amazing uniqueness.
Hard to get your head round, but so so true.
How do we engage with Jesus to enable that ridiculous dichotomy to be realised? How can we know our weakness, and his empowering love at the same time?
More than anything, you need to speak it when you catch it in others, to sing out that wonder. To not be afraid to bless. You need to realise you can love others in this way, and let it become the norm. Learn from those who bless you, and do the same.
Don’t make it up. Don’t patronise. But do speak the truth in love. Live it.
