I read the King James, it has real authority; I read the New International, it has real clarity; I read the Good News, it has real pictures.
You may recognise the lines from a sketch that compares three stereotypes of church people, and their different preferences. Do you have a Bible translation that works for you?
Jesus was the living Word. He came to physically show what a God-centred life was like. And he didn’t live it to show off, everything he did was about revealing and teaching that the God-centred life is God’s gift to each and all, and he is the Way.
Does the translation you read make the Bible come alive, make Jesus surprise you, both challenge and reassure you? Is it in a magazine like Daily Bread that gives you some thinking to open it up? Are you still looking?
Find it, or find the discipline/place where the Bible you have opens. That’s the one to read, it has real life.
