What title do your give yourself – and why? Mr. Mrs. Ms. Sir. Lady.
My choice is Rev or not.
If I don’t label myself as Rev, I always feel people are a bit more relaxed, unguarded, and less likely to be daunted by the fact that they are speaking to somebody from the church. It’s easier to speak to a person than someone, who because of the title, is now a uniform! It acts in the same way as wearing the dog collar.
However, if you are meeting someone bereaved, hurt, lost, the title (or collar) is, in those circumstances, the thing that relaxes, allows openness and freedom!
We are who we are, of course, so titles shouldn’t matter, but we have to work around their social impact.
We are who we are, then. Ah, but that means children of God, engaged in his mission. Sent, like the disciples. Title doesn’t matter, but it is actually ‘SAINT.’
Wearing the title or not, it is our calling to live it out, and allow others to encounter Him through us.
