Here’s a description of something I saw today, which has stuck with me. I’m not really sure what it is telling me, but then perhaps we can explore it together, and you can tell me.
As I was driving along there was a gentleman sat on his electric chair (mobility scooter) and in his hand he is holding a steel tube from which comes a flame. He is methodically making his way along his garden wall, burning a set of weeds that have grown along a ledge about a fifth of the way down from the top. You can see the charred remains of those he has already cindered.
Maybe it is because there was so much technology being used to simply kill defenceless weeds, making it seem like a military operation, that struck me.
Maybe it was simply the Heath-Robinson-esque nature of the whole operation.
Maybe it was simply because it is an illustration of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
But, as with all preposterous circumstances, it is the ones you find yourself in that you don’t recognise!
If that guy had a neighbour who was perhaps more able-bodied, he might have been glad to help him. We have neighbours. It is part and parcel of church.
Don’t go to great lengths to do a job that someone would be delighted to help you with. Do that really difficult thing (especially for blokes) – ASK!
It is essential to enable you to really receive.
