There are certain iconic things that Jesus did that are part of our culture, even for people who have never read the Bible for themselves. Pictures of Jesus that are in our imagination.
One of these is Jesus walking on water.
I suspect many people think of it as evidence that Jesus must be a bit odd, and add to their dismissal of him as being insignificant. But the idea of walking on water remains intriguing.
But, if you do read the scriptures, and approach them intelligently, the account, the reactions of those around him, the lack of drama on Jesus’ part, all paint a compelling picture that this is what indeed happened. And more than that, that this is an accurate picture of Jesus relationship with us.
We are not walkers on water per se, but by invitation.
We read about Jesus in scripture, we see him in others, we worship him in spirit and truth, we acknowledge him in our lives, we look with hope for his return. But we encounter him on the water.
It is an open invitation. One step of faith away.
