Petrol is a spirit. Flammable. Just needs a spark to ignite it, and oxygen to burn in, and it will release the energy it holds.
Diesel, (aka as Derv or Heavy Oil) is not a spirit, but oil. It is not flammable, but does hold energy. It is released by mixing with air at high pressure and temperature.
Engines are made and tuned to provide the right environment and conditions to release the energy from these fuels. Pistons, cams, gears, and the like, are there to makes useful mechanical energy as a result.
I shan’t mention leaded fuel and different octanes, tempting though it is.
We need fuel, in the shape of food, as we are energy using vehicles.
The Bible does seem to describe some of the characteristics of the Holy Spirit in terms of fuel. We are offered, and expected, to both be filled, stay topped up, and allow the God-energy to be released.
Spirit, needing a spark to ignite, or diesel, needing high pressure to ignite?
Well, I think we are hybrid vehicles, factory designed to run on Holy Spirit, but all models in need of initial retune, then always in the process of conversion. And Holy Spirit fuel will always be able to provide energy, no matter how souped-up or rusty we are, as long as we are prepared to engage clutch and move forward…
