Today was the Leavers’ Day service at the Pre-School. The Music Man (aka the Vicar) was invited and asked to do a little talk. Even in the dress rehearsal, there was such a sense of atmosphere you felt you should be whispering.
There were no expensive ball gowns, and children arriving in limousines – thankfully. Just an honest collection of parents and grans – some veterans of this event, some first-timers.
Apart from the songs, and the elegant photographic records, we went on a Bear Hunt! We wanted to catch a Big One. We weren’t scared! No!
We went through the long grass, the mud, even the snow storm.
It’s what Pre-School is about. Adventures, travelled together, overseen by love, to enable children to grow in their maturity and character through play.
The Staff have done a good job, and understand the rewards of love.
I think the disciples, when they were with Jesus, were at pre-School. Their Leavers’ Day Service has Jesus departing vertically into the sky. Then the summer holiday ending at Pentecost. And so, propelled into the University of Life, discovering how we have been prepared for living under the jurisdiction of the Holy Spirit, with the God-driven purpose of glorifying Him and making disciples of all others.
You can see the blossoming personality of each individual child in the environment that has been a home for them for months. Likewise you can see the blossoming personality of Jesus in those, settled in fellowship, who live to love him.
