Been watching gymnast after gymnast just now. Different disciplines – flying across the floor, leaping from bar to bar, twisting through the air , landing centimetre perfect. There’s no other word for it; they are doing the impossible.
For them, apart from the stamina, I guess it is almost as simple as assembly a lego model. For us, it is breathtaking.
In fact, it is hard not to believe you are watching computer graphics.
Doing the impossible, of course, was normal for Jesus. When asked about it, his reply was simple – I’m doing what the Father shows me to do.
But let’s make no mistake about it. You follow Jesus, you are asked to hear/see the word, and do it. If you are ready, it is as easy as assembling lego bricks. But, to anyone watching, don’t be shocked if they tell you you are doing the impossible. Or if they are annoyed because what you are able to do is abnormal and offensive.
Righteousness, living in a way that delights God, is impossible. BUT, righteousness is the gift of God, and to those who receive it, it is there to be seen. And shared.
