Earlier this evening, though it is indicated on a rota, there was actually no jubilee party to take place at All Saints on Sunday the 2nd. Just an intention.
Within two hours the party is organised, tasks delegated, common overview held, and already a sense of excitement.
How do you get from one to the other?
Well, we gathered in the house where these things often happen, spoke, listened and received (together) what is to be. We shaped it together, unexpected features emerged to our surprise, and so WATCH OUT! It’s on its way.
That isn’t quite the whole story. Little incidental details like the knowledge and experience of those who were there, the mutual respect, the thinking that had gone on before, and a willingness to be one.
It isn’t as tough as creating the world, but it does have some similarities. The world was spoken into being, listened to and received within the three-fold nature of God, in perfect unity. And then people added in the same image as the creator(s).
And it has some similarities with coming into God. We hear, not necessarily the whole story, but something that speaks of Jesus, and an invitation to reach out and accept. We receive, and often then need to speak ourselves, and this new life is sealed and begins to take effect. I am a new creation.
Just like the party has many stages to yet go through, though it is happening, we need to continue to be willing to speak, because faith does come by hearing.
And like the meeting this evening, it opens up and leads to the great party.
