I like bridges. I think they make great photos. Ones that go on for miles are ridiculous! How did people ever have the imagination to think that such things were possible, never mind the perseverance to see through all the problems along the way and actually build the thing.
It was probably on our trip to America a few years ago that I watched the in-flight documentary about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge, and how they had to invent a solution to sink the towers into the river. Basically they had started to build it, and encountered a problem working underwater that made it impossible to continue, so they were left the task of finding a way to do the impossible, which they did!
However you build a bridge, you have to extend into empty space, and meet somewhere to create a link that wasn’t there before. Maybe that’s why I admire them.
Perhaps Jesus did say “I am the Bridge,” but it never made it into the Top 7 in John’s gospel. He did set out from Heaven, quite prepared to build into space, in anticipation of making connections. And boy, what a highway he produced.
It is a narrow path, but wide enough for all.
You have to walk it to discover it though.
