(Another cracking line from a song I love. I’d be surprised if anyone recognises it – but do surprise me!)
I think it’s a line Jesus could have sung to himself, about himself.
I comes as a bit of a shock to realise the historical Jesus, as he is portrayed in the gospels, is compelling, makes sense, and has a wisdom that pokes through with a thump even 2000 years later. He is timeless.
Non-the-less, people who dismiss him, trivialise him, make things up about him, seem to earn themselves a respectable audience. It is what we think people want to hear. Until they do get apprehended by the voice and person of Jesus. And the tables turn 180 degrees. The compelling Jesus compels.
You meet the historical Jesus, but he is alive.
Meet the one who sees the universe. And sigh!
