Please don’t get the impression I dwell in the past. If you’ve just watched the video above, as I hope you have, I couldn’t actually remember this opening sequence. The genie reminds me of Robin Williams from Disney’s Aladdin, not someone I can recall from childhood TV. It was the coming together of the rings I remembered, and that the characters said “SHAZZAN” as they brought them together.
Why was I recalling that? Well, particularly at this evening’s service, with Chris’s willingness to let God speak through her (her words, her personality, her experiences, her humour), it just struck me that God assembles pieces together, sends them in our direction, we see them fit together, and SHAZZAN!
With folk returning from New Wine and Soul Survivor, places where people gather to deliberately encounter God, we are reminded that God is a God of encounters. Abraham, Elijah, Moses, all heard God, listened, and stepped into a new world, just as we step into the kingdom of God through Jesus. The life of faith remains a life of encounters.
Let’s festival at our services. Come expecting the pieces to assemble and fit and shazzan.
