Where did humans start sitting in rows?
We do a lot of it now – aeroplanes, buses, cars, and concert halls and churches – to name but a few.
Maybe it started with marching, peoples migrating on foot, armies on the move. This isn’t sitting, but travelling.
But then again, the examples of sitting are also about travelling.
And yes, attending church or a play is about being taken on a journey.
We are seated in heavenly places (Ephesians 1:6). Maybe not in rows, but seated. It tells you that that is now the nature of your journey, this is the actual landscape you are traversing.
Have a look out of the windows. It is so important that you are aware this is the actual journey you are on. And strapped into.
