A few weeks ago we were taking a walk on Rossall Beach, fine sunny afternoon, tide a good way out, with the Community Payback team doing some tidying up. Bagel running around looking for birds to chase, as usual.
Then we come across some sort of sea bird just sitting there on the beach. Bagel wasn’t sure what to do – as the bird was not flying off and playing the usual game. We obviously tried to keep her away. On closer inspection the bird didn’t seem lame, though was only making rather half-hearted attempts at flying. Perhaps it was water-logged?
The supervisor of the Payback Team, with his lads, mounted a guard, and rang up for help, with a guy from Marton Mere soon on his way.
When we passed by again later, we found out that the bird (it might have been a guillemot) simply was resting. Apparently it is one whose habit is to fly long distances, become exhausted, need to rest, and then, when recovered, simply mount up on its wings, perhaps like an eagle, and away it goes.
It hadn’t chosen a good place to rest!
We need to rest – we need to learn what rest in God actually is. As Andrew prays regularly, ‘make this a Mars day’ – work rest and play.
Have a balanced and productive week.
