A strange thing happened on the way to Wales this morning. I brought Bex home from there this afternoon.
Setting off early, I was on the M55 by 6.30. I started to form some of the things to say at one or two talks, prayers, that are to come. There was a tear in my eye. Or two.
By the time I got onto the M6, it was not just one or two, but crying. Tears of joy. This is so unusual for me. Nothing like this occurred at the New Wine leaders’ conference, where ministry times are a staple part of the diet. And it continued right until the M5/M50 junction. No problem driving safely, I hasten to add.
In answer to the question ‘Why,’ all I have to say is this. Somewhere along the line, in the past few days, I have said ‘yes’ to something under God, and it is coming. Bit vague, I know, but that’s all I have for now. Wait and see.
And just a note about the picture. It is the one that also has been floating around as I knew I should share this short account on the blog.
When I was being ordained, my colleagues had had sophisticated hand-made stoles designed, in all liturgical colours, by designer-label embroiders. I had picked up a (second hand) white embroidered stole that had been donated to the course, and bought Ken’s spare black preaching scarf off him! I did, though, fancy having a picture embroidered at the bottom of the scarf, which is a very evangelical thing to do. I had a very clear idea of what, as well. A drop of water arriving in a small pool, and causing ripples. But could I find this picture I had in my head so Ann could embroider it? Not a chance. So elusive. It never happened.
However, this picture is now so prevalent – the renewal movement even have it as their logo!
So, things are being gathered and heading somewhere. And it feels really really good.
Can you see / feel / hear anything?
