Have you ever suffered from furry pipes?
I don’t mean savage mould growing on the outside of your domestic plumbing, though that can happen. I was thinking of the stuff that builds up on the inside of your central heating pipes. The stuff that’s dissolved in the water. It is there, and it’s supposed to be there. Water is not H2O, it is the stuff that falls from the sky, dissolving stuff from the air, from the soil and river beds it ends up in, and refuses to give that stuff up when we filter the water and treat it. We pay extra for spring water, stuff that has even less taken out.
And it ends up building nice crystal gardens on the inside of our pipes. Which we don’t appreciate when the radiators only half-fill with water, and our homes just don’t get warm enough.
We definitely want our homes and lives to be trouble and maintenance free, but nothing is clinically perfect – we live in a world teeming with surprising life.
