I never have got into the habit of reading a daily newspaper, but surveying the Ceefax* headlines has become a bit of a habit. It is like a BBC Top 10 of news items, so it gives an idea of what we as a nation feel is important. If something appears that is world news, I might look into it in more detail, wondering why it has registered.
It can be strange top 10, with football headlines sometimes coming in at number two!
This week featured IO7 and #. The news here was that if you have an iphone, the display will not feature leather and wood look alikes anymore (the gloss has gone!) – and that if you use Facebook, by using #before_a_word it will take you to what twitter has to say about that topic.
Not exactly earth-shaking you might think, but it is significant. The furniture in your life has been changed, if you use these devices. The way that your opinions are formed from the information you process has been altered.
So what does this mean for the truth? Well, there are new places or ways for it to emerge – but it hasn’t changed. There is still the one route to reality, and that is encounter with Jesus. And as likely as not, that will still be through someone’s life that has been touched by Jesus, in turn touching theirs.
Enjoy the novelty. But rejoice and stay rooted in the gift of eternity in Jesus, which won’t pass away.
*I don’t think Ceefax exists anymore, or teletext, but I’m referring to what you get when you hit the ‘Red Button’ on TV and look up the news headlines
