Do you take the mickey out of your friends? Or put it another way, do you have friends whose legs you can’t pull?
I think it is a very important indicator. A friend is some one who doesn’t take themselves too seriously when with you! Please don’t start stock-piling your insults to cheer me up, though! I do take heart from the fact that folk are confident to have a laugh at my expense.
I say this because your church leaders in Cleveleys met for their first weekly prayer meeting yesterday, along with a few others (8.15 Clevelyes Baptist – a.m! – all welcome who want to pray for God’s work in Cleveleys). If I simply say that one person who came along, who said extemporare prayer is something they are afraid of, prayed twice effortlessly, you get the idea that prayer flowed.
It’s not that we are spiritual giants, or deeply religious people. It is, I think, just that we get on. We are aware of the privilege of working with amazing people in our churches. We love God, who has collared us! We are seeing things happen in our town. We are comfortable with each other’s foibles. Amid the fun, some deep prayer emerges.
Please, please, if you are not in at least one group with whom you can share prayer in this way, do something to join one.
And expect answers.
