I’ve never known quite what to make of this song. It’s by a band called Elbow, and even after listening to it many times, I wasn’t sure what was meant. Whether the title and sung line is a disparaging remark, or his way of honouring Jesus.
The album it is from was playing in the car as we returned from Cumbria this morning. Recognising the singer, Hannah asked if the song was coming up, as it was one of her favourites. Ann googled the lyrics, and found the clip attached below.
The line refers to someone who was from that northern town where our kids spent their earlier years, and she emerges in the singer’s string of memories as someone who was full of grace. Hence Jesus.
Take it as a challenge. People need to know Jesus living in Anchorsholme.
