Could you have Christmas without Carols?
In theory, yes, but in practice – NO!
Even if you didn’t sing them, and there was a carol warning just before you were about to hear one, you would still have them by their conspicuous absence.
Can you read about shepherds without hearing your musical memory chime in ‘watched their flocks by night?’ Or angels bringing good news without hearing ‘herald?’
Love ’em or hate ’em we have woven them into our Christmas. Like so many other extras.
Is it good, or is it bad? Does it depend on whether we enjoy it? If it is relevant? Tastefully aesthetic?
Well, could I suggest this simple test. If it makes you feel ‘nostalgic for an age yet to come’ then go for it. In other words, if it sends you into the past, then ‘think twice.’ If it reminds you of who God is, and what he has done for you, well, go for it!
In the Car Park on Wednesday evening, at 6.30pm on Sunday next!
