Guests, Servants, Sons and Daughters.
All different ways to belong to a family. Each has their own rules and roles, and that makes Downton, which the ladies in the household are watching, so appealing. Seeing the boundaries crossed is one of the sources of story lines.
One of the threads of the evening service tonight was looking at how we belong to God’s household. I suggested we are guests who accept the invitation, and along the line become servants. Though, as one the regular bloggers pointed out, Jesus says he no longer calls us servants, as we know his will, and he calls us friends. And we are actually sons and daughters.
