Well I hope you managed to get to the Closing Ceremony – we were at Greenbelt so didn’t. I hear it was quite something, wasn’t it?
As to Greenbelt, which is a Christian Arts Festival inhabiting Cheltenham Race Course, it was very familiar after all these years.
Until I was ordained, I worked in the Children’s Area, so it was like Holiday Club for me! As I finished being a regular, it became a ‘professional’ venture, no longer organised by Joan King and her volunteers. This year and last that’s changed again, with there
being no ‘Area’ to deposit your youngsters at for a couple of sessions each day – though lots to take them to with you.
It was the 39th Greenbelt Festival.
It survived the rain, but it was a bit hairy at times. With trepidation we watched youngsters enjoyed dancing in the mud during the Proclaimers on mainstage.
Maybe Greenbelt has changed from Youth Movement Church, to organised Family Church, to Radical Campaigning Church and now Messy Church.
Whatever, it is where unique Church happens.
