No, I’m not a great fan of the book of Job.
The beginning is interesting, the last few chapters where God has the microphone are where I skip to. The ones in the middle… well, they do go on a bit. Not very snappy.
In the reading we follow at morning prayer (8.30 am at church, Tues, Thu, Fri – All Welcome) Job’s turn has come, and we’ve sat and listened, and that has launched our prayer.
‘My harp is tuned to mourning’ Job 30:31
One of many.
He’s lost in his circumstances, confused, but praying, playing, and not losing his sharpness. Asking questions, and holding out for real answers. And able to speak truthfully, which his friends can’t handle. They want a simple answer, so they can get back to reading their Daily Mail.
Words of humour, hope. Words of courage, spoken from a hard place. They are like precious pearls.
Thank you to those who share them.
