You may have seen Manchester Cathedral on the TV this week. It was the location of both the funerals of the policewomen killed recently. Nigel McCullough, the Bishop, gave a very good description of what it was like being part of what was happening – he was there as an experienced by-stander.
I have seen the Bishop of Manchester, on most other occasions, central to events at the Cathedral. While working in Farnworth we seemed to have one person after another going through ordination. I was struck by what the Bishop said at the end of these services. With the formalities over, he shouted in a loud voice ‘The church of God has 17 new priests!!’ which we responded to with loud applause. Admittedly, the third and fourth times it wasn’t so effective, but non-the-less it’s a good way to finish.
People of God at All Saints Anchorsholme, at this time tomorrow, two of its precious people will have become Readers. We know already what a great gift they are to us as a community, this is acknowledging the same beyond our boundaries.
Feel free to come and support them in Lancaster at 3.00pm tomorrow. (Details on the notice sheet page)
I shed a good few tears watching those funerals….who wouldn’t? It was a dreadful crime and a tragedy for their families. May God bless them and lay his healing hands on them all <3 x
What a sad day it was watching the funeral of the two police officers killed recently, such a tragedy, may God comfort their families and friends.
I attended the licensing of Karen and Hannah as Readers at St. Paul’s church Lancaster this afternoon. What a wonderful service, and a lovely sermon by the Bishop of Lancaster. The church was full and it was great to see so many people from All Saint’s supporting them. Congratulations Karen and Hannah and may God bless you both in your new role as Readers. xx
