This blog is for Big John. In Friday prayers he referred to Jesse’s son as Dave. That got me thinking.
When we still had all the kids at home, you could tell who’d been watching TV last when you turned it on. If it was wall-to-wall Friends, then it was the girls. If on Dave, then Rik. Dave was the channel with continuous Top Gear, all day, every day – or so it seemed.
The book of Psalms is like the Dave channel – he did, after all, write most of them. And they are intriguing to keep revisiting. There are the really famous episodes (40, 139, 8 for example), the great one-liners (in his presence is fullness of joy), and the ones you read for the 68th time, and they suddenly floor you! But there is also the familiarity, the repetition of grace, the echoes of the new testament.
Don’t forget to tune in. And if you’re passing at 7.30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, drop in.
