Stars wouldn’t look good without the blackness of the night sky behind them. See them away from city lights, and the wonder of the milky way on a sharp clear night is breath-taking.
It is always there, but you can’t see it or appreciate it without the contrasting background.
Scripture can be a bit like that. You read it, and it is very familiar, but doesn’t necessarily stand out. However, if someone explains how it has spoken to them (against the background of their situation); or someone pops up with some facts from the time (historical or cultural background); or it makes you see your own circumstances from a fresh perspective (personal background) then ZAP! The 3D is turned on.
It is designed to be read with imagination; it is the living word of God.
