How do we get to a place of comfort with the Bible, able to read it and be fed, encouraged, challenged or whatever, and know that it is God ministering to us. Where does that practical, effective confidence come from?
Well, before I go any further, I need to say it is God’s intention for you. He has already placed the basic and advanced requirements into place. It is there to be discovered, rather than achieved, but it requires work. AND, you already do it more than you probably give yourself credit for.
I would start here. You are God’s child, and you know his voice. You will learn, as you grow, how well he knows you, and can speak into your situation. You will hear that voice draw attention to things other people say, and will remind you you have already heard this. And you will have your sense of hearing reinforced. This will also happen with scripture. Sharing what you have heard, with others who can hear the same voice through you, is also an important part of the process.
When you read about scripture, or hear someone like Mike ‘expound’ them, it will fit in with those moments when God has come along beside you.
Some things you may have to wrestle with, even for years, but eventually God is able to bring you to a place where you will get the right perspective on what is going on. God answers when we ask.
This has been my story. I delight when other people, with a different personality and approach and history bring the scriptures alive in a different way. But it chimes. It chimes.
Get to the place where it chimes. Delight to dwell there. And share it. You need to make room for more.
