I have found a new word. I wrote it down on my phone (well, I guessed I thumbed it in, to be precise) but I’ve forgotten now where it was that I found it. I’m not sure now who to thank for it.
Maybe you’ve heard it before, but it is not known to me. And it’s one of those words that points to something you have been aware of, but didn’t have a label for, so couldn’t quite lock onto it.
Have you read ahead yet to find out what the word is?
Well, I think it means something that has the property of opening up new connections, enabling you to see things in a fresh way, being a tool that brings in freedom.
I think it describes so well the effect of Jesus, it describes the nature of his parables, it points to a characteristic of the Holy Spirit.
The word must be related to elusive, because you can see similarities. Are you ready? Allusive. There. Wasn’t that worth waiting for.
Now try and find a conversation to drop it into!
One last point. Jesus is a word, it is a label, it is a name.
However, as I hope we all know, when you encounter Jesus, a little like my excitement with my new word, it opens up life-transforming truth, and you never hold the word Jesus in the same way again. Like Paul said, you can no longer use the word in a derogatory manner, because you know he is Lord.
Lord… there’s another word to write a blog about…
